The trees they talk to me and one another (and those garrulous fungi!)
Sing of roots dancing in underground ballrooms
Reminisce of favorite storms and children swinging from boughs
Chatter endlessly of the many flavors of rain and slants of sunlight
The flowers they prance and dance for me
Waltzing and wafting gently in tuned breezes
Bees alight aloft bringing pollination excitations
(oh how many poems the roses have written about that!)
The sun she rises for me
(I am sure her Sun sign is Leo, she is so full of herself, so warm and radiant)
Such a reliable lover she asks nothing in return
Her stage a’spin yet she never dims her light even when upstaged
The clouds they paint for me
Oh, fond of Dragons and Horses they are (have you noticed?)
Talented artists, they can create so many layers even just with greys, whites
And I love them even more than the clear blue skies they express so much I feel
The words they propose to me
“Come, love us forever, come be ours”
Jolly and poly they love you equally well
(I don’t mind sharing my little beloveds with you)
WRITING PROMPT AND EXERCISE:
If the trees, flowers, clouds, sun, moon, stars could talk to you, what would they say? (which leads us beautifully into …)
Write outside! When I taught English in Kona, Hawai’i, I’d take my 7th graders out to sit under the palms, I’d read them Walt Whitman, then invite them to write nature poems. They loved it!
I confess, some of my favorite nature poems I’ve written have been penned indoors (keep in mind that I have a disability and am housebound many days), but whenever I am able to get out to the sea, to the woods, to gaze at the moon and stars, I always, always find a poem writing itself through my eager fingers.
And if you can’t go on a Major Nature Excursion, just sit in your garden, lie on your lawn, lean against your favorite tree in the park, reach your sacred arms up to the Moon, or look at the sky from your patio or front door. Or even out a window.
I’d love to see the poems Nature inspires through you, if you’d like to share them in a comment below. I’d also love to hear what “The trees they talk to me” painted in your mind and ignited in your soul….
POETRY BOOK UPDATE!
You may have seen that viral Note announcing my book! I’m so excited!!!
The final poems are being curated for my upcoming collection! I expect the book to be available as paperback and e-book on Amazon AND other online and retail locations sometime in November.
Beautiful Late Bloomer: Passionate Poetry and Mystic Musings will feature 111 mystic poems on a variety of themes including love, spirituality, aging, nature, words as healing rituals, creativity, and more.
I can’t wait to share this with you!
If you want to make sure you get the notice when the book goes live, you might want to follow me as an author on Amazon. I have contributed to several other books listed there, but this will be my most exciting project yet… And I have nine more poetry books coming after this one!
If I can birth my first collection of poems at age 60, you can shine more brightly too!
As I said in the Note and holy cow, and over 1,900 people agreed with that sentiment:
“It’s never too late to bloom and shine!”
As editor, poetry curator, and ghostwriter, I’ve helped over 100 other authors get their book babies launched. I love being a “book baby midwife”!
And finally, it’s almost time for my own baby to be born.
I feel 42 weeks pregnant with this book!
If you don’t yet have the free Substack app, I highly encourage you download it. Substack is BY FAR my favorite community and way to share writing and also read great content from other deep thinkers—compassionate humans with heart.
I share new poems almost everyday on Substack as “Notes” and share fuller e-zine newsletter “Posts” which go out to all my email subscribers about twice a month.
Almost everything I share there is free. I don’t like paywalls. I find them elitist and gatekeepery. I like to be generous!
And there are none of the annoying ads or political trolling like you see on FB.
Even if you’re not a writer, you’ll love Substack! And if you ARE, start writing and sharing there! You’ll be warmly welcomed.
Thank you for allowing me to share this poem with you today.
Bright Blessings and Blissings,
Sage
P.S. Almost forgot to mention that everyone who subscribes as an Annual or Founding Member gets Beautiful Late Bloomer as a gift from me to say thank you!
But no pressure whatsoever, feel free to hang out here at the free level forever or buy the book if you feel so inclined.
I’ll be sharing more with you soon—poems and also spiritual essays, tips and tools for manifestation, abundance, spiritual awakening, conscious loving, self-love…
Have a beYOutiful day, dear one! xoxo
Absolutely beautiful!
"Come, love us forever, come be ours” -- What sweet words!
